A chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and former Minister of Works, Sen. Kingsley Adeseye Ogunlewe has opened another can of worms when he threatened to make a former council administrator of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), accountable for the missing medical equipment meant for the abandoned Federal Medical Centre in Igbogbo
The elder statesman said that he has reported a suspected former council administrator to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the alleged theft.
The facility located down Yewa Road in Igbogbo, which has been abandoned for many years was facilitated by Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe about 17 years ago when he was Minister for Works under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
Sen. Ogunlewe said that he is embarking on making the alleged suspect to account for the equipment put under his care because he feels that stealing in government should (not) be encouraged. He made the revelation at the commissioning of the Baiyeku PHC which was fully rehabilitated by Omo’ba Hammed Aroyewun, Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA on Thursday.
“They asked me to come here to commission this Primary Health Care facility, but I must say this: there was a Primary Healthcare facility that the federal government brought to Igbogbo sometime ago, but one of you stole all the equipment meant for the facility.
“I have reported him to the EFCC for him to explain his involvement in respect of what was put in his care. We must not encourage our leaders or anyone to steal and if anyone does that, he must face the consequence.
“I just embarked on the pursuit of making the person in question be held accountable and we are going to make him return all the equipment because they are meant for the public. Anyone who tries to prevent that will have to deal with serious fights from me,” he warned.
The IMPACT has written several times on the abandoned medical facility and the efforts of stakeholders and residents of Igbogbo to bring it back to life which proved abortive.
The said facility which was almost completed before it was abandoned is now rotting away.
